Cebu City is well known for its grandest celebration yearly, Sinulog. This grand festival is celebrated every third week of January in honor of the image of Sto. Nino. It is said to be a gift to Queen Juana, the wife of Rajah Humabon, by the Portuguese colonizer Ferdinand Magellan. The word Sinulog comes from the Cebuano adverb “sulog” which means roughly “like water current movement”. It describes the forward- backward movement of  Sinulog dance.

ACTIVITIES AROUND THE CITY

As the city can offer many expenditure activities and scenery, you can’t go home without visiting this ancestral house called The Yap-Sandiego ancestral house and it is considered as one of the oldest house in the Philippines. Built in the late 17th century and still standing on its original equipment though it shows weather-beaten but unyielding structures made from coral stones and molave wood. This house was owned by Don Juan Yap and Dona Maria Florida with their 3 children: Eleuterio, Maria and Consolacion.

Cebu City has a lot to offer, and one of the spots that a tourist can never resist to take good shot is the Magellan’s Cross. It is a Christian cross planted by Portuguese and Spanish explorer Ferdinand Magellan upon arriving in Cebu in the Philippines on 16 or 17 of March 1521. This cross is housed in a chapel next to the Basilica Menor del Santo Nino on Magallanes St., just in front of the city center in Cebu City.

One of the most visited tourist spots in the City is the 10,000 white roses which is situated in Cordova, Cebu City. It is a cafeteria that offers a scenic view of the 10,000 white roses and a view of the whole city opposite to it. While sipping my favorite drink whether a cappuccino or a latte macchiato  I get to reminisce adventures and experiences I had from different places. The place has a good ambiance and calmy hearing the fussing sound of the ocean water.

Surely you enjoyed the trip for the entire day and it is time to relax and chill. There is a French restaurant named La Vie Parisienne that gives you an international flavor, one of my favorite food that I enjoy was the croissant and I paired it with a glass of wine. They have an oozing flavor of great wines and in fact, they have a huge wine cellar also located at the resto. This fancy restaurant is owned by Michael Lhuillier and managed by Louis Thevenin.

Other tourists consider taking a good vacation away from the city and exploring mountain adventures. They want to experience adrenaline rush and tranquility of nature. I have found out a good place to savor your cravings for adventure. You can have mountain canyoneering where you will hike and taking paths down the river. Along the way you need to experience the 7 cliff jumps before you get to the last chapter of the activity which is the Kawasan Falls.

How to get there? Apparently, I am also a tourist who loves exploring good sights. I traveled from Cebu to Badian, a southern of Cebu province, I took a ride from my travel agency’s transportation. There are different transportation that you can take to Badian. You can ride a bus from Cebu City proper or take a Public Utility Van. Spent 5 hours on the road just to get to Badian, the starting point of the adventure. In Badian a lot of tour guides offer their services to guide you around for the entire canyoneering activity. You will pay 1,200 pesos to experience this adventure. Price may vary depends on the number of tourists in a group. Some tour guides will make a discount if they can reach their minimum person in a group. So I do encourage to take the activity with your friends.

In this adventure, please have your action camera ready because you will experience water rafting, cliff jumping, hiking, and rope swing. The tallest cliff that you can experience for this activity is 15 ft. which is on the last part before you can see the majestic Kawasan Falls
